CLOSURE: Popular Asian restaurant set to close in Mississauga

A popular eatery known for its creative take on Vietnamese and Taiwanese sandwiches is closing its doors later this month in Mississauga.

Bao Bar located at 4310 Sherwoodtowne Blvd., near Hurontario Street and Highway 403, opened in the fall of 2021, bringing its modern take on Asian street food from Waterloo to Mississauga.

The restaurant offers a menu that blends the flavours of Vietnamese banh mi and Taiwanese gua bao.

Known for its bold flavour combinations and steamed buns made fresh in-house, the spot quickly gained a loyal following among food lovers near Square One.

Some of its popular dishes include the Chicken Katsu Bao, Seoul Beef Bao, and Dynasty Duck Bao, along with shareable sides such as Seoul Kimchi Fries and Duck Poutine. Beverage favourites included Thai Tea, Purple Lemonade and Fresh Lemon Peach Tea.

In a statement posted to Instagram, Bao Bar announced that it will permanently close on November 30.

“We regret to announce that Bao Sandwich Bar Mississauga will be permanently closing after four years,” the post read. “We would like to thank our valued customers for their loyalty and support. We are truly grateful for your business and for welcoming us into the community.”

The restaurant did not provide a reason for the closure or indicate whether operations at its Waterloo location would be affected.
