A longtime Chinese restaurant with many loyal customers has permanently closed in Mississauga.

The Shanghai House Restaurant at 1014 Burnhamthorpe Rd. E. has closed, according to a post from the restaurant owners.

The restaurant has been open for many years in a small plaza at Burnhamthorpe and Tomken roads. People are reminiscing about how they have been going to the place since childhood.

A brief post on the restaurant’s Facebook page announced the closure in January.

“We are closed. We would like to thank everyone that has supported us through the years,” the post reads.

It then suggests patrons try the newly opened restaurant, Urumchi Uyghur Cuisine, which has opened in the spot.

“It is a friendly family owned restaurant much like ours were,” Shanghai House said.

Many people remarked on how they will miss Shanghai House, in particular, the braised chicken.

“We’ve been eating at your restaurant since high school – such good times,” one person wrote on Facebook. “That braised chicken was sooo good…”

“I’ve been eating at your restaurant since I was a child. What a huge loss but I understand if you felt it was time to go,” another person wrote. “You will be so so missed! No one had Crab Rangoon or Hot Braised Chicken like you guys did.”

It also has many good reviews on Google.

“Great place to get some authentic Chinese take out. Try the braised chicken with fried rice. Amazing. Been eating here for over 10 years,” another person wrote on Google.

The new restaurant focuses on Uyghur cuisine, which comes from an area in the northwest of China. The menu includes some traditional Uyghur food such as braised lamb, naan bread and parmuda, a type of samosa.
