A Canadian retail brand will close most of its stores across the country.

Sustainable fashion chain Frank and Oak plans to close most of its stores, according to news reports. The company filed for creditor protection under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act in December 2024 as it struggled with $71 million in debt.

A Retail Insider story suggests 10 stores will shut while other news reports indicate nine stores will close by May 7 as Frank and Oak looks for a buyer.

According the Frank and Oak website, there are seven stores in Quebec, five in Ontario and and two in Vancouver.

Stores in the Greater Toronto Area are expected to stay open for now, while the Quebec and Vancouver stores will shutter and hold liquidation sales, according to Retail Insider. There are stores on Queen West, the Eaton Centre and The Well in Toronto and Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga.

The company’s website and e-commerce business will continue to operate.

It is unclear how many people will lose their jobs. Court documents show Frank and Oak has about 150 workers.

Frank And Oak was founded in 2012 in Montreal and is known for its eco-friendly practices, ethically sourced materials and responsible fashion.
