A clothing store is shutting its doors after more than two decades in Toronto.

Frock, located at 97 Roncesvalles Avenue, north of Queen Street West, will be closing due to “ongoing financial challenges,” the owner said.

“After much consideration, I have come to the difficult decision that, after 23 wonderful years, the time has come to close our doors,” the independent boutique’s owner, Jim Pauk, said.

“Following the passing of our founder – my wife, Cathryn – four years ago, I committed to carrying on the business for five more years before determining its long-term future. In light of the many challenges small businesses have faced in the years following COVID, I believe it is now prudent to bring Frock to a close this spring.”

A specific closing date hasn’t yet been confirmed, but Spring will be the store’s final season, its website says.

“Beyond the immense loss of Cathryn’s vision, creativity, and experience, there were many obstacles to overcome. I am deeply proud that we were able to carry the torch this far, and I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support you have shown us over the years,” Pauk said.

“This decision is a personal one, as a third of Cathryn’s and my lives were devoted to Frock.”

There will be closing sales offered and the business says that it will continue to receive new inventory through the Spring.

“Now more than ever, we are grateful for the continued support of our community and appreciate your patience as we navigate this final chapter,” Pauk said.
