An acclaimed Ontario restaurant with a Michelin star has closed its doors.
Hexagon, an Oakville staple which has seen nothing but buzz since it opened nearly a decade ago, has been listed as ‘temporarily closed’ by Google, the official Michelin Guide, and its website.
The restaurant was awarded its stars over two consecutive years, in 2024 and 2025, earning it immense popularity and esteem within the GTA’s coveted restaurant industry.
“The menu reads familiar – beef tartare, oysters, fish – but what emerges from the kitchen are beautiful, soigné works that are refined, original, and substantial,” stated the Michelin Guide’s website.
Hexagon’s recognition in the culinary world was the result of head chef Rafael (Rafa) Covarrubias’ dynamic approach to modern cuisine, further putting Oakville on the map as an international player in fine dining.
“Potato foam, brown butter, and roe are clever pairings with Hokkaido scallop. Pasta is a highlight, like corn agnolotti with Manchego, but so too is the short rib,” continued the guide’s review.
However, according to the restaurant’s website, Covarrubias recently departed his leadership position in the restaurant, resulting in its sudden and, as stated by leadership, temporary closure.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Chef Rafa Covarrubias and the entire Hexagon team for their dedication and contributions over the past nine years. As we transition into new leadership, the restaurant will be temporarily closed. We look forward to welcoming you back soon and will be sharing updates in the near future,” reads a statement on Hexagon’s website.
The feathers in Hexagon’s cap did not stop at Covarrubias, as Pickering’s Victoria Rinsma, who helped Hexagon earn its second star, won regional finals at the coveted S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition last year.
Hexagon has not provided any further updates on its reopening timeline.
