‘Close your windows, stay away:’ Smoke envelopes rural Hamilton area

Residents are being asked to close their windows and avoid the area of a large fire emitting heavy, particularly hazardous smoke in Hamilton Thursday morning.
Emergency crews have been on the scene of a commercial fire at 183 Hendershot Rd., near Hwy 20 in Hannon, since around 7:45 a.m.
Black smoke can be seen from several kilometres away.
Residents in neighbouring communities, like Winona and Binbrook, have reported poor air quality due to the smoke.
Hamilton Fire tweeted just after 8 a.m. that residents should “ensure windows remain closed” and “air handling units are shut down to avoid drawing in any smoke.”
Officials provided little information. However, there are industrial plastic and metal production facilities in the area of the fire.
Hendershot Rd. remains closed between Hwy 20 and Golf Club Rd.
