Clarington unveils community-designed mosaic mural project

A new mosaic mural showcasing Clarington’s “continued strength and resiliency” as well as the artistic talents of its citizens was given its grand unveiling Wednesday morning.

The mosaic of a flourishing apple tree, made up of 700 individual tiles painted by residents and community groups as part of a community-wide project last summer, was unveiled at Town Hall where it will remain on display year-round in Veteran’s Square (cenotaph) at the Municipal Administrative Centre in Bowmanville.

“The mosaic mural project was a perfect way to safely reconnect the community and showcase our resiliency during challenging times. Each tile represents something special about Clarington, and together, our collective story will act as a reminder of how we’ve remained united, strong and steadfast throughout this pandemic,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

“Thanks to our generous sponsor, Ontario Power Generation, and the expertise of Mural Mosaic, the community was able to create a little piece of Clarington history, one painted tile at a time.”
