Clarington says there is still time to run, walk or swim for cash, and is encouraging residents to participate in ParticipACTION’s Community Better Challenge this month.

This national contest encourages Canadians to get active and compete to win a grand prize of $100,000 for their municipality to support local initiatives that promote physical activity.

Clarington has already hosted several fun virtual events to help residents stay active and win the prize, including a Family Disco Dance, a Family Fitness Class, a Retro Family Aerobics and a Family Boot Camp.

To win, you have to track your daily activity or ‘move’ minutes throughout the month to add to the overall municipal total. Move minutes are any time an individual engages in light or incidental physical activity, including:

Running, walking, hiking, wheeling or jogging
Yoga, pilates, or stretching
Canoeing, kayaking, or paddleboarding
Gardening, yard work, vacuuming or cleaning
Active play, games or sports or dancing
Strength training, group exercise or fitness classes

Future virtual events include Family Yoga on June 22 at 4 p.m., and a boogie nights event on June 30 when Clarington will host Family Dance Through the Decades, starting at 6 p.m.

Remember to practice physical distancing, wear a mask and follow public health guidelines related to COVID-19 while being active.
