Clarington will install eight electric vehicle (EV) charging stations around the municipality this year, with half the purchasing and installation costs to be covered by a federal grant.

To complete this work this year Council has agreed to allocate $65,000 from the Municipal Capital Works Reserve Fund with the rest of the funds coming from Ottawa’s Zero Emissions Infrastructure Program grant.

Xavier Canada Corporation will be the sole-service contractor for the job.

In 2021, the cost of eight level two Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Garnett Rickard Centre in Bowmanville was budgeted to fuel municipal fleet vehicles for building inspection work.

These new eight EV stations will be scattered around Clarington for public use.
