Clarington residents will get a chance to learn more about two “big ideas” developing along the Courtice waterfront tomorrow night.

The third in a series of Public Information Centres on the Waterfront Park and an Energy Park Employment Cluster will take place March 9 at seven pm. To register for the Zoom event, go to https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_gfQHW86iRL-A0Nd6qcC-OQ

The Energy Park is currently home to the Darlington Energy Complex and the Durham York Energy Centre. The recent announcement by OPG to relocate their headquarters to Courtice will bring more than 2,000 jobs to the area and spur the growth of an energy cluster that is expected to attract additional employment.

Clarington is also creating a park along the east end waterfront andwill explore other uses such as tourism and residential.

Council approved funding for the Waterfront Design Plan this year and during budget deliberations approved an extra $120,000 in funding to “accelerate” the project. Staff had recommended the work be carried out by Urban Strategies Inc., already the lead design consultant.

The extra funding will be funded through development charges.

Clarington has identified the Courtice Waterfront as a priority in its 2018-2022 Strategic Plan.
