Clarington Fire Chief Mariano Perini is moving on to a new leadership role with the Office of the Fire Marshal.

Clarington CAO Mary-Anne Dempster called it a “bittersweet” moment but it was an “amazing opportunity” that Perini couldn’t pass up. “In his time with us, he has been a fantastic leader and achieved several remarkable accomplishments in the department. He will be greatly missed.”

As Clarington’s Director of Emergency and Fire Services, Chief Perini championed modernization efforts throughout the Fire Department. He led efforts to digitize the department and introduced mobile data terminals in fire vehicles. He brought in enhanced training in line with best practices in the industry. Chief Perini expanded command and control, giving platoon chiefs a more independent role on the scene of a fire. He also started a review process to find administrative efficiencies and improve customer service in the department.

“Chief Perini has been a wonderful asset to the Clarington team. We are sad to see him go but very happy for the opportunity the Chief has,” said Mayor Adrian Foster, who added that Perini’s initiatives will benefit the Municipality well beyond his tenure as Clarington’s Fire Chief.

The exact nature of Perini’s appointment has not yet been disclosed but he recognized the time was right to move on. “It’s been a very welcoming environment. The people here are fantastic. It’s been a wonderful opportunity,” he said. “It has been a privilege to be part of the leadership team.”
