Clarington Eagles one win from immaculate post-season and spot in provincial championships

The Clarington Eagles are one win away from a perfect playoff run and spot – for the second year in a row – in the provincial Schmaltz Cup championship.

The Eagles swept their first two opponents, including a series win against regional rivals Uxbridge – are now one win from a second straight league title after Sunday’s 4-2 win over Port Hope put Clarington up 3-0 and the Panthers on the brink of elimination.

Clarington won the first two games of the series 6-5 and 5-2 and can book their ticket to the Schmaltz Cup in Woodstock next month with a win in Port Hope Wednesday night.

Over in the Junior ‘A’ loop, Matthew Cato of Whitby still leads all playoff scorers with 11 goals and 22 points but his Trenton Golden Hawks are down 2-0 in the Buckland Cup final to the Collingwood Blues.

The series winners will bring OJHL honours to to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba for thr Centennial Cup national championships.
