Clarington COVID cases dominate Durham virus numbers

COVID-19 cases continue to climb in Clarington, with 21 new cases reported over the past three days and now one school closure.

Clarington led all Durham communities with 11 new cases Friday and added five each on Saturday and Sunday Oshawa also reported a high number of cases in the period, with eight new cases on Saturday and Sunday and 20 over the three days. Whitby reported 18 cases over the same period.

School outbreaks are also on the rise – especially in Clarington. Fourteen schools reported outbreaks affecting 29 students. Twenty-three of those students attend Clarington schools, including Enniskillen Public School in rural Hampton, which was forced to close after an outbreak was reported Friday. Thirteen children at the school are now home self-isolating.

There is one institutional outbreak declared (after a break of about a week) after Bowmanville Creek Retirement Home in Clarington reported two residents isolating. There are also two workplace outbreaks declared in Durham.
