City of Oshawa “carefully considering” mandatory vaccination policy

The City of Oshawa is “carefully considering” a workplace vaccination policy, though no details of the policy have been leaked, except for a statement that talks with union members are ongoing.

Pickering has already made their mandatory vaccination policy public, as has Whitby, which included an opt-out for staff if they agree to regular testing.

Mayor Dan Carter said a “consistent” vaccination policy is needed to “better protect the health and safety” of employees and residents. He added that senior staff is doing its due diligence right now, which includes following the medical advice of the Province and Region and working with union representatives “to ensure we also meet the health, safety and legal rights” of all employees.

“Exploring a workplace vaccination policy for our City staff, who have continued to serve our community throughout this global pandemic, is another way we can make a powerful impact,” said Carter. “A strong vaccine mandate not only protects our team but also our community. I encourage everyone who is eligible, to get fully vaccinated.”
