The flag at city hall and city facilities have been at half-staff since the May 4 death of Robert Wade, Hamilton’s first mayor post-amalgamation.

It will be returned to full staff on June 1, the City of Hamilton tweeted on Friday, May 19.

People can sign a book of condolences at city hall on the second floor outside the mayor’s office, and the Ancaster Municipal Service Centres until May 31.

Wade served as mayor of Hamilton from 2000 to 2003. He retired in 2003 after more than 25 years in government, including 16 years as mayor of the Town of Ancaster, according to the city’s website.
