The City of Burlington has lowered its flags at City Hall to honour the lives lost in the devastating Texas elementary school shooting on Tuesday

An 18-year-old gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas killing at least 19 children, one teacher and another adult. Police killed the gunman.

“Our flags were lowered last night in the wake of the devastating loss of those taken too soon in the senseless mass shooting at a Texas elementary school,” said the City on Twitter.

“Our community mourns with our U.S. neighbours through this tragedy.”

The Texas shooting marked the deadliest school shooting at a U.S. grade school since 20 children and six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newton, Conn. in December of 2012.
