City of Burlington has many free, fun summer activities for families

The City of Burlington has a myriad of free events and programs to make summer fun for residents and visitors.

“There are lots of great opportunities for everyone to have some fun, be active, be social and enjoy being outside,” said Denise Beard, acting director of Recreation, Community and Culture.

“Our sponsorship program with the Rocca Sisters, Access Storage and Safari Dental allows us to be able to offer more enhanced events and keep them free for everyone to enjoy.”

Here are some of the planned events.

Concerts in the Park

Concerts in the Park are presented by the Rocca Sisters and are every Wednesday and Sunday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Central Park Bandshell, 2311 New St. until the end of August.

Bring a blanket or chair, pack a picnic and enjoy an evening of free music. For a full list of artists visit here.

Kids Mini Fest

Kids Mini Fest on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is presented by the Rocca Sisters, with special activities provided by Safari Dental.

Residents are invited to visit one of the locations listed below for this free family-friendly event. This event offers the same programming and activities at each location. You are encouraged to choose the park that is closest to you.

  • Brant Hills Park, 2255 Brant St.
  • Cumberland Park, 562 Cumberland Ave.
  • Millcroft Park, 4520 Millcroft Park Dr.

Movies Under the Stars

Movies Under the Stars presented by Access Storage will take place on select Thursdays, in July and August at parks throughout the city.

Come early and bring a picnic or snack and pick your spot on the lawn for the night. All movies start at dusk.

Here is the schedule:

  • July 7: My Girl, Nelson Park (4183 New St.)
  • July 14: Encanto, Orchard Community Park (2255 Sutton Dr.)
  • July 21: Trolls 2: World Tour, Central Park Bandshell (2311 New St.)
  • July 28: Doolittle, Kiwanis Park (494 Townsend Ave.)
  • Aug. 4: Soul, Kilbride Park (2175 Blessington St.)
  • Aug. 11: Abominable, Ireland Park (2315 Headon Forest Dr.)
  • Aug. 18: Sing 2, Spencer Smith Park- West Lawn (1400 Lakeshore Rd.)

Free Summer Swimming

Free summer swimming presented by Access Storage will happen at select times at various locations and times throughout the summer. Come cool off and have fun in the city’s outdoor and indoor pools.
