The City of Burlington is calling on both the provincial and federal governments to fork over more money to help offset pandemic-related losses.

At today’s (Tuesday, Feb. 15) council meeting, councillors passed a resolution asking for more Safe Start Agreement funding for all municipalities.

According to the resolution, the City was already forecasting significant revenue losses in 2022 (more than $5.8M) and that was before the January restrictions that will additionally limit income for transit, recreation facilities and programs and parking operations.

The original Safe Restart Agreement funding was vital in enabling municipalities, including the City of Burlington, to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, maintain critical services and meet the responsibility to balance budgets, said the resolution.

The resolution will be sent to several parties, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Premier Doug Ford and neighbouring municipalities.
