The City of Brampton will be hosting a series of events soon in honour of International Women’s Day (IWD) to celebrate women leaders, entrepreneurs and artists and focus on embracing equity and working toward creating an inclusive world.

The events will take place on Mar. 8 at Brampton City Hall and aim to honour the achievements and contributions of women and individuals who identify as women.

The events will feature a retail market with all local women-driven small business owners, fireside chats with local leaders and musical and dance performances with women artists and creators.

The market will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the fireside chat and performances will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Participants will also be able to take concrete actions to educate themselves and others on the impact of systemic inequalities and their collective responsibility to address them.

The fireside chats will be hosted by Brampton writer Jael Richardson and feature women leading Brampton, as they share their experiences of embracing equity.

Speakers include Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor for Wards 1 and 5, Navjit Kaur Bar, Regional Councillor for Wards 2 and 6, Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament, Brampton South, Kathy McDonald, Peel Region School Board Trustee, Wards 3 and 4 and Clare Barnett, Director, Economic Development.

“At the City of Brampton, we know that allyship and authentic conversations are important tools in building an equitable workplace and community,” said Mayor Patrick Brown.

“Thank you to Councillors Santos and Brar for continuing to champion this work both inside City Hall and on a broader level in our community.”
