Christmas tree waste garbage recycle Burlington Oakville Milton Halton

Discarded Christmas trees can head curbside this week as it’s post-holiday collection time in Niagara Region from January 9 to 13.

The trees can be put out on residents’ regular day of garbage collection at 7 am but the region waste department wants to remind people of a couple of things:

  • Artificial trees are not collected. Use the large item collection service to dispose of artificial trees.
  • Remove all Christmas decorations (bulbs, tinsel, lights, etc.) before collection
  • Don’t place Christmas trees on top of or inside a snow bank. This may cause injury to collection staff when trying to remove it.
  • Don’t place tree inside a bag as it creates a problem when chipping the trees

They added that weather conditions may delay collection. “Leave your Christmas tree at the end of the driveway and it will be collected.”

If you miss collection, Christmas trees can also be dropped off at any regional landfill site free of charge.
