Chocolates, wood polish, batteries and AV carts recalled in Ontario stores

Health Canada has recalled several products ranging from chocolate, wood polish, battery packs, audiovisuals carts and a plant-based schnitzel from Ontario including, Mississauga and Brampton stores this week.

Residents are urged to check their homes for the following recalled items as they pose health risks such as allergic reactions and aspiration issues as well as may cause fire hazards or tip-over accidents resulting in fatal injuries.

Nelson’s Chocofellar brand Dark Chocolate

Nelson’s Chocofellar - 60% Dark Chocolate - 48 g - Label

Th affected products are being recalled from the marketplace because they may contain milk which is not declared on the label.

  • 60% Dark Chocolate with Hazelnuts
  • 60% Dark Chocolate with Roasted Almonds
  • 60% Dark Chocolate

Risk: Potentially cause a serious or life threatening reaction for those allergic or sensitive to dairy products.

What you should do: Do not consume. The item should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

There have been no reported reactions associated with the consumption of these products.


Old English Lemon Oil Liquid Wood Polish

Old English Lemon Oil Wood Polish

According to the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act—the product does not meet the labelling requirements.

In addition it can cause aspiration when the product enters the lungs directly or is coughed up or vomited after being ingested. The coughing and vomiting could cause small particles of the product to travel into the lungs, or the product may be inhaled directly in the form of a fine mist. Prolonged exposure could lead to serious health risks, and in some cases death.

Below are the codes for the eight different 235 mL bottled batches of the Old English Lemon oil being recalled:

  • S22117
  • S22118
  • S22120
  • S22126
  • S22305
  • S22306
  • S23029
  • S23030

The batch code is embossed in the clear packaging (at the top of the bottle), near the back label.

Risk: Poses an aspiration hazard if ingested and could lead to serious illness, injury or death.

What you should do: Immediately stop using the recalled Old English Lemon Oil product and contact Reckitt Benckiser for reimbursement. Then dispose the item safely— according to local municipal waste requirements.

As of April 12, 2023, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.


Flo Battery Backup for Flo Smart Water Monitors

FLO Smart Water Monitor Lithium-Ion Battery Backup unit

The recalled item is a battery back-up (add-on)  to the original product. In some cases the battery back up can  fail by overheating.

The Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff (which is sold separately), has had no safety issues, and is not being recalled.

Risk: Potential fire hazard.

What you should do: It is advised to unplug the battery back-up and contact Moen for instructions to disable the device. The product must be then safely disposed of the battery in accordance with applicable laws. Consumers will also receive a refund.

As of April 13, 2023, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.


Audiovisual Carts by Luxor Workspaces

LP-DUO

The audiovisual carts can become unstable when loaded with heavy objects such as heavy cathode-ray tube televisions (CRT TVs) or could cause serious injuries to unsupervised children attempting to climb the product.

Risk: Poses a tip-over hazard, and may cause fatal injuries to children attempting to climb the cart.

What you should do: Stop using the recalled carts and contact Luxor Workspaces LLC for a free repair kit.

As of April 12, 2023, the company has received no reports of tip-overs or injuries in Canada.

However, in the United States between 2006 and 2016, the company received reports of three children who died and one who was seriously injured after climbing carts loaded with CRT TVs. The children were not directly supervised at the time.
