Chocolates, hashbrowns and more recalled due to health risks in Mississauga and Brampton

Multiple products have been recalled from stores in Ontario this week (Mar. 7 to 13) due to potential health and safety risks, including stores in Mississauga and Brampton.

Residents are advised to check if they have these products at home and avoid using or consuming them out of caution.

The following products are affected:


Made Chocolates brand 73% Dark Chocolate Bar and QC brand 73% Cacao Dark Chocolate, Extra

Made Chocolates brand - 73% Dark Chocolate Bar - 100 grams

Risk: The products contain milk which is not declared on the label.

What you should do: Residents with a dairy allergy or lactose intolerance should check if the product can be returned to the store it was purchased from.


Taisun brand Vegetarian Mushroom Jerky

Taisun - Vegetarian Mushroom Jerky - 169 grams

Risk: The products may contain milk which is not declared on the label.

What you should do: Residents with a dairy allergy or lactose intolerance should check if the product can be returned to the store it was purchased from.


Cavendish Farms brand Classic Hash Brown Patties and no name brand Potato Patties

Risk: The products contain wheat which is not declared on the label.

What you should do: Residents with a wheat allergy, celiac disease, or other gluten-related disorders should check if the product can be returned to the store it was purchased from.


Crate and Kids Be the Band Music set

Risk: The maracas can split apart or become unscrewed, and metal beads can become accessible to children creating a choking hazard.

What you should do: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Crate and Barrel for further steps.


Giant Value Drain Opener

Risk: The recalled product does not meet the leak test requirements for consumer chemical products required by the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. If a corrosive chemical product leaks out of the container, it can attack and chemically destroy exposed body tissues.

What you should do: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and return it to any Giant Tiger store to obtain a refund or safely dispose of the product in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements.
