A celebration of Chinese culture will take place this Saturday (May 20) at Mississauga’s most popular downtown core gathering spot.

The annual Chinese Culture Festival returns to Celebration Square once again for a full day of exciting entertainment and activities for people of all ages, festival organizers say.

The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and admission is free.

The event is a “celebration of Chinese culture with the theme of Culture, Charity and Green,” organizers say.

“Experience the thrill of the Lion Dance, an ancient Chinese tradition that symbolizes good luck and fortune,” they continue. “Treat your taste buds to delicious traditional Chinese food featuring authentic flavours and ingredients. Support a good cause and give back to the community with Trillium Health Partners charity fundraisers.”

Other scheduled activities and entertainment include a Chinese kung fu demonstration, a Peking Opera, traditional Chinese music and dance, a Han/Tang Dynasty wedding ceremony, Chinese Valentine’s Day activities, portrait photography, an eco-friendly vehicle display, free kids’ games and painting for teenagers.

The festival’s grand opening ceremony will begin just before 1:30 p.m. on the square’s main stage.

The full-day festival will close with live music in the evening hours.
