Maintain safety in the home and read below to see what items pose choking and injury hazards.

Scholastic Canada The Shake Look Touch book

Risk: Scholastic Canada’s The Shake, Look, Touch book is recalled due to a choking hazard. There are small pom-poms attached to the book that have been reported to detach. The pom-poms pose a choking hazard for small children when they are not longer attached to the book.

The book measures 5.9 x 1.7 x 8.4 inches. The company reports that 1,496 units of the affected product were sold in Canada. Scholastic is currently selling a version of the book that does not include pom poms and is not being recalled.

What you should do: Immediately stop using the recalled book and call 1-800-268-3848 for instructions on how to participate in the recall. Consumers will be provided a shipping label and asked to return the books to Scholastic Canada Limited.

Consumers will be issued a refund once Scholastic receives the returned book. For more information, visit Scholastic Canada Limited’s website.

John Deere Lawn Tractors

John Deere lawn tractor

Risk: Certain John Deere Lawn Tractors are recalled due to the possibility of injury. This injury hazard involves the rear wheel hubs. They are prone to failure resulting in a lack of braking and propulsion on the lawn tractor. Green and yellow lawn tractors with various deck sizes are included in this recall. These particular models are printed with “John Deere” and model number “X380” or “X390” on the side. They come in 54 inch and 48 inch deck sizes.

What you should do: Immediately stop using the recalled lawn tractors and contact an authorized John Deere dealer for a free inspection and repair. Customers can find more information on the Deere and Company website.

The affected products were sold from April 2022 to May 2022. The company reported that 27 units were sold in Canada.

Horizontal Venetian Slat Light Filtering Mini Window Blinds

Risk: Horizontal Venetian Slat light filtering mini window blinds sold by Wayfair are recalled due to the potential for strangulation and choking hazards to children.

This recall involves aluminum horizontal slat blinds in varying sizes, white in colour, and displaying the following model numbers on the product packaging: BYC-18-XY, BYC-20-XY, BYC-22-XY, BYC-24-XY, BYC-26-XY, BYC-28-XY, BYC-30-XY, BYC-32-XY, BYC-34-XY, BYC-36-XY, BYC-38-XY, BYC-40-XY, BYC-42-XY, BYC-44-XY.

Health Canada says the recalled blinds do not meet the Corded Window Coverings Products Regulations.  The design of the product does not properly address the hazards of exposed operating cords, which can create loops. Young children may put looped cords around their neck, or become entangled in the cords, posing a strangulation hazard.

What you should do: Consumers should immediately stop using the product and keep all the cords away from children. The cords should be cut, and the product disposed of in the garbage.
