Children’s Aid to honour founder of Sharon’s Kids Oshawa GM program with annual award

Durham Children’s Aid Foundation (DCAF) will present the first annual Sharon Clark Memorial Volunteer Award this September in honour of the dedicated volunteer and Oshawa General Motors employee who started the Sharon’s Kids program in 1968 to ensure all children could enjoy a happy Christmas.

The program has raised more than $500,000 in the last four years alone and celebrated 50 years in 2018. It’s now called the Sharon’s Kids Community Caring and Holiday Hope

Clark died April 13, 2020.

The award will be presented in memory of Clark, who compassionately dedicated her time to help vulnerable children and youth in Durham Region for more than half a century.

“Sharon would be so very pleased her memory and passion for helping others is being recognized in this way. She always went above and beyond as a volunteer to ensure no child, youth or family was left behind,” said Leslie McLean, manager, Signature Programs and Events for DCAF.

According to the award criteria, the nominee should be a volunteer who inspires others, demonstrates a passion for the children and youth served by DCAF, and is a compassionate and energetic team player who takes the extra step to ensure that ‘No Child or Youth Shall Be Left Behind.’
