five dollar movie and five dollar pop corn at Cineplex every Tuesday this month.

In a nostalgic nod to the late nineties, Cineplex theatres across Canada are making a night at the movies more affordable this February.

With the resurgence of the 2000’s era romantic comedies to remakes of iconic films such as Mean Girls, Cineplex is also hopping on the ‘flashback’ trend.

For this month only, moviegoers can enjoy general admission tickets at $5 each plus tax.

This marks a significant throwback to 25 years ago when Canadian movie tickets were last priced at $5, just before the turn of the millennium.

“We’re taking Tuesday pricing back to the late nineties when Canadians were running to see iconic movies like Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, The Sixth Sense, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Toy Story 2 and The Matrix,” said Sara Moore, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Cineplex.

Interestingly, this promotion is not limited to regular tickets. Those who are Scene+ members will receive an additional 10% off the ticket price for their Tuesday purchases. While online ticket purchases come with an online booking fee of up to $1.50 per ticket, plus tax, and standard upcharges for premium experiences will still apply, Cineplex notes.

Additionally, the offer excludes non-feature films and Event Cinema presentations.

To complete the cinematic experience, Cineplex is extending the $5 deal to its famous small bags of popcorn every Tuesday this month. However, the popcorn offer does not apply to Uber Eats, SkipTheDishes orders or purchases made through Cineplex mobile ordering.

“The limited time Tuesday pricing will give Canadians more reasons to enjoy the magic of the movies with friends and family,” Moore said.
