Cheap car scam appears in Mississauga and Brampton

A series of fraudulent Kijiji postings pretending to sell cars for a pittance have been making the rounds in Mississauga and Brampton.

The posts were exposed by independent journalist Kyle Taylor. He found the listing for cars appeared mostly in Peel. In one such example a 2009 Honda Civic for $950. However, Auto Trader values ’09 Civics between $2,000 and $14,000

According to Taylor, texting the number results in a response but only to get a deposit. Any attempt to meet or see the car results in a cessation of texts. A Google search of the number turns up several older posts for various vehicles, including a Sea-Doo from the last week. However, all links are now dead. It does appear the number originates in Barrie despite advertising in Peel Region 100 kilometres away.

Insauga reached out to Peel Regional Police but they have yet to confirm if they’ve received any further reports.
