Charges laid in Brampton crash that killed 71-year-old driver

A woman from Vaughan has been charged and police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a fatal crash in Brampton.

Around 8:20 a.m. on Thursday (June 9), police say three vehicles were involved in a collision at Main St. N and Vodden St. East in Brampton.

Police say a 71-year-old man from Brampton was headed westbound on Vodden when he was struck by another vehicle driven by a 48-year-old woman who was travelling northbound on Main St.

The woman allegedly walked away from the scene and was taken into custody by responding officers shortly after the crash.

First responders were able to remove the 71-year-old victim from his vehicle and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Denise Herbert, 48, of Vaughan has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation Causing Death
  • Failure to Stop After Accident Resulting in Death

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on August 22.
