Charge laid in traffic death of Hamilton senior

A woman has been charged in connection with the third traffic death of the year in Hamilton, which occurred six months ago.

A 51-year-old Hamilton resident, whose name was not released by Hamilton Police (HPS), has been charged with one count of careless driving causing death. She is due to appear in court on Aug. 22.

On the first Saturday afternoon in February, around 3 p.m. on Feb. 5, a 70-year-old man was struck by a driver. He was attempting to cross Upper James St., south of Fennell Ave. E., on Hamilton Mountain.

The driver was cooperative and remained at the scene, police said. The pedestrian was taken to hospital in critical condition, but died on Feb. 20 as a result of his injuries. His name has never been published.

Hamilton has had 14 traffic deaths in 2022. Nine of the victims were pedestrians. The first three victims were all seniors.
