Changes coming to Seniors Services fee structure in Oakville

The Town of Oakville will be changing the way seniors are charged to access services.
At least that’s the recommendation contained in a report that will be presented at tonight’s (June 17) council meeting.
Currently, adults at least 50 years old can sign up for a Seniors Services Membership that costs $40.89 with an addition $1 fee per visit for drop-in programs.
The proposed fee schedule would see the base cost rise to $49.50 but eliminate the per-session fee. Seniors over the age of 80 would receive a 50 per cent discount and there would be no cost for those over 90.
“A wide variety of active and social drop-in programs are offered through the Seniors Services programming,” reads the report. “Drop-in programs are supported and led by volunteers. The highest attended drop-in programs include pickleball, snooker, badminton, cards (bridge and euchre) and table tennis.”
Currently, there are approximately 3,100 active Seniors Services members. In 2023, there were more than 35,500 drop-in program visits, averaging about 11 visits annually per member.
If approved, changes to the fee structure would start July 1.
