Cellphone bill scam targeting some Mississauga and Brampton residents

A new text scam is out to convince you that you owe a lot more money on your cellphone bill.

A local resident recently reported getting a text that said $135 had been added to their cellphone bill for that month.

The text looks like this (recipient’s cellphone number blacked out):

The goal of this scam is to scare you into replying for more details, which may allow scammers to get ahold of your personal information.

The biggest giveaway, however, should be the fact that the message doesn’t name any specific wireless carrier.

Residents should avoid replying to texts like these and, if necessary, directly contact their cellphone service provider to confirm any changes to their monthly bill.
