A Brampton couple are still reeling after a cashier’s lucky lottery ticket pick paid off with a $50,000 prize.

Michael Taggart is a retiree from Brampton who says he has been a regular lottery player for 30 years and especially enjoys playing Bingo and Crossword games.

The 65-year-old bought an Instant Bingo ticket recently and decided to let the cashier choose which one to play, which turned out to be a very lucky pick.

“I was hoping to uncover B5 so I could get all four corners,” Taggart said while picking up his winnings at the OLG prize centre in Toronto. “All these other numbers came up and I ended up getting the box.”

Taggart said he checked the ticket 20 times to double-check the win, and Taggart said his wife was in disbelief to learn they had won a top prize of $50,000.

“She was shocked and asked, ‘Are you serious?’ I got her to double-check the numbers and she said it was unbelievable,” he said.

Taggart said he’ll use the windfall to help pay off some bills “and to do something fun with my wife.”

“Winning is a pretty good feeling,” he said.

Instant Bingo is available for $3 a play with a top prize of $50,000. The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.

The winning ticket was purchased at West Bram A Convenience on Queen Street in Brampton.
