Car theft ring investigation nets 11 suspects on 55 charges from Clarington to Pickering

An investigation into an organized ring of car thieves operating from Montreal to the GTA has netted 11 suspects on a collective 55 charges.
The investigation was led by Durham Regional Police based in Clarington and Ajax-Pickering. They launched the investigation in November following a rash of car thefts across the Region.
The investigation targets a car theft ring that started up in Montreal and was stealing cars across the GTA. Given the inter-provincial nature of the ring, Durham police collaborated with the Gatineau Police and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
Ultimately, they arrested the 11 suspects on the 55 charges by the time they announced the sting on December 7. However, police have not named the suspects or listed what they have been charged with.
The investigation also led to the seizure of 33 cars worth an estimated $2.5 million.
“The DRPS would like to thank the members of the investigative team for their dedication and perseverance, as well as CBSA and all of the other law enforcement agencies that provided assistance during this investigation.” the service said.
