Car stopped with toddler on parent’s lap at Oshawa RIDE program

The RIDE program in Oshawa stopped a car last night with a child on their parent’s lap.
The car rolled up to the RIDE stop at King St and Waverly St., a busy area of the city just east of the Oshawa Centre, shortly before 11 p.m. on December 7.
The officers immediately noted that a “young toddler” riding on the lap of one of their parents. An empty car seat was in the car.
The driver was charged criminally, but police did not specify for what offences.
Overall police stopped hundreds of cars that night and tested 12 for impaired driving. One person was arrested a short distance away from the stop on impaired driving charges.
In its first two weeks, the annual Festive Ride campaign has stopped more than 3,200 cars and charged 30 drivers with driving impaired.

Some of these drivers have caught additional charges including drug possession, open liquor, readily available cannabis, driving while prohibited, and resisting arrest along with many Highway Traffic Act violations.
Two of the more unusual arrests have been a food delivery driver who was passed out in his car after a two-hour late delivery and a woman who drove into the commercial stop for transport trucks.
