Car stolen in Brampton home invasion used in armed carjacking, six Toronto teens charged: police

Half a dozen stolen cars and a loaded handgun have been recovered by police after a group of teens used a car stolen in a home invasion in Brampton in a violent carjacking, police say.

Around 1:15 a.m. on July 13, York Regional Police say officers were called to a parking lot on Enterprise Blvd. in Markham.

Police say a driver and passenger got into a Mercedes CLA45 when the vehicle was blocked in from behind by a white Hyundai Elantra.

That’s when two men jumped out of the Hyundai and held the victims up at gunpoint. Police say one of the carjackers was armed with a handgun and the second indicated he was also armed.

The victims weren’t physically harmed in the incident but the carjackers took off in the Mercedes with other suspects following in the Hyundai, which had also been reported stolen from an earlier home invasion robbery in Brampton.

Police identified multiple suspects and six males, all between the age of 15 and 18 years old, were arrested on Thursday in Toronto. Investigators also recovered six stolen vehicles and say a loaded Glock handgun was found in the room of a 17-year-old during a search.

Joemar Derby, Akinbowale Monday, and Yahye Mahamed, all 18, or Toronto have been charged with robbery with a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old were also charged with various offences.
