Car stolen from Oshawa plaza crashes into another vehicle on Hwy 401

A car stolen from an Oshawa plaza wound up crashing into another vehicle as the driver allegedly tried to flee the scene,

An Acura MDX SUV was taken from a parking lot on Laval Dr, the small road running through the centre of the South Oshawa Walmart and Lowe’s plaza, around 10 a.m. April 6.

The Acura owner tried to intervene and stop the car, but suffered minor injuries in the attempt as his car sped off. Driving down Hwy 401, the Acura struck another vehicle.

A Tactical Support Unit officer responded to the crash and arrested a man on scene.

Charles O’Brien, 42 of Oshawa, is charged with theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous driving cause bodily harm and failure to give a name before leaving an accident scene.

O’Brien has been released from custody with conditions.
