After going winless and goalless through their first two matches of the “The Kickoff” portion of the season, back-to-back Canadian Premier League champions Forge FC Hamilton have secured back-to-back wins.

Kyle Edward Bekker scored twice on Thursday (July 9) to lead Forge FC over Cavalry FC 2-0.

Bekker opened the scoring in the 13th minute and then added an insurance goal in the 35th for Forge (2-2-0).

Tristan Henry made two stops for the clean sheet.

Cavalry FC (2-1-1) controlled 65.2 per cent of possession but couldn’t make it count.

Cavalry could have jumped Valour FC (3-1-0) for first place with a victory

All eight CPL teams are playing at Winnipeg’s IG Field for the first part of the season — a 29-day single-city stretch dubbed The Kickoff.

Forge will next play Sunday, July 11, against Valour FC in a 1:30 p.m. kickoff. The Hammers trail first-place Valour by three points.
