There will be a candlelight vigil at the Table Rock Centre adjacent to the brink of Niagara Falls to show solidarity with Ukraine on the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion this Friday.

On Feb. 24, 2022, the world watched with revulsion and opposition as Russia invaded its neighboring country, Ukraine.

The candlelight vigil, entitled “365 Days of Resistance,” will begin at 7 pm while the falls will be lit up in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag at 8 p.m.

Organizers are asking participants to “Please bring your flags, candles, battery operated lights and dress warmly!”

The following day, there will be an Ecumenical Service to pray for Ukraine on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at St John The Theologian Ukrainian Catholic Church (91 Lakeshore Rd) in St. Catharines

“We will come together, all faiths and denominations to pray for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, to pray for peace and to pray for those whose lives have been lost,” said organizers.

As well, the church has a fundraiser to help “purchase tourniquets for our Ukrainian defenders.”

They are selling $20 toques with an embroidered blue and yellow Truzyb, which is the coat of arms of Ukraine – a blue shield with a gold trident.

“All the proceeds will go towards purchasing more tourniquets for our next shipment,” says the church.
