A candlelight walk will be held tonight (May 29) to remember an 8-year-old Burlington girl who was tragically killed earlier this month.

The vigil will be held for Jayne Hounslow who was struck by a vehicle outside of Burlington Central School on May 3.

The memorial will begin at Burlington City Hall on May 29 beginning at 7 p.m. and proceed along Ontario St to Nelson Ave, along Elgin St and back to City Hall. Candles will be provided by members of Burlington City council.

To support the walk, the City will be closing roads along the walk’s route from 7 to 9:30 p.m.; Ontario St. to Nelson Ave., Nelson to Elgin St. and Locust St. to Ontario St. will be closed.

Musical and speaking guests will be taking part during the evening.

An endowment fund created in Jayne’s memory has also been established through the Burlington Foundation and will financially assist children and youth to attend arts, sports, music and other recreational camps.

Donations to Jayne’s Fund can be made by following this link.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing death in connection with the case.
