A major Toronto food festival has announced its cancellation just weeks before its launch.
In an Instagram post, it was announced that the Taste of Little Jamaica Street Festival had been abruptly cancelled just two weeks before it was scheduled to take place.
The festival — a combination of the Toronto Patty Fest and the Taste the Caribbean Food Festival — marked the first collaboration between the two events.
The event, which promised “One unforgettable day of food, music, culture and community,” was set to take up Toronto’s Little Jamaica, on its enclave on Eglinton Ave. West.
“This is more than a festival — it’s a celebration of the people, businesses, flavours, music, and culture that have shaped Little Jamaica into one of Toronto’s most iconic Caribbean communities,” read the event’s original Instagram post.
However, the event, which was supposed to run from noon to midnight on Saturday, July 18, was cancelled on July 2.

According to festival representatives, the cancellation stemmed from issues surrounding permits, with the cancellation post reading, “Over the past several months, we have worked closely with the City of Toronto and community partners throughout the event planning and permitting process. While every effort was made to move the event forward, we were ultimately unable to secure all of the approvals required to proceed this year.”
Representatives stated that they are honouring the City of Toronto’s decision surrounding these permits and extend their thanks to all vendors, performers and community members who anticipated the event.
While this year’s event has been cancelled, representatives urged that this does not spell the end of the Taste of Little Jamaica Street Festival going forward, stating, “Our commitment to celebrating and uplifting the Little Jamaica community remains strong. We look forward to bringing this vision to life in 2027.”
