Sunwing Airlines has cancelled all southbound flights on Thursday from Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

The airline announced on Wednesday afternoon that all remaining southbound flights departing from Toronto Pearson International Airport were cancelled. All southbound flights on Thursday, Feb. 20 are also cancelled.

Sunwing said they are prioritizing the safe return of customers currently delayed in destinations due to recent weather disruptions, crew availability constraints and extremely limited hotel capacity.

“This difficult but essential operational decision allows us to redirect our resources toward bringing delayed customers home as quickly and safely as possible,” Sunwing said.

Passengers in sunny destinations have been delayed for several days as flights to Pearson were cancelled due to poor weather conditions and the Delta Air Lines crash on Monday. Three major winter storms have also caused delays and cancellations.

Hotel capacity in resort areas is reportedly limited because passengers can’t return to Toronto.

Sunwing said all affected customers will receive a full refund to their original form of payment within 21 business days, with no further action required.

“We understand this decision impacts our customers’ vacation plans and sincerely apologize for the disruption,” the airline said. “Our team continues to work diligently to minimize further impact on our operations and support affected passengers.”

Sunwing flies to many tropical spots such as Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba and Central American countries.
