A trucker from Brampton accused of causing a deadly crash in Vermont is still behind bars and unable to come up with $150,000 USD for bail, police say.

The Vermont State Police say the crash happened on April 11 on Route 100 when the driver of a commercial truck crashed with a Subaru in Mooretown, around 20 kilometres west of the state capital of Montpelier.

Investigators say the truck was travelling south on Route 100 when it crossed the centre lane and drove into oncoming traffic, crashing head-on with 35-year-old Vermont woman Rosetta Weber.

Weber was pronounced dead at the scene and the truck driver, identified as a 24-year-old man from Brampton, was transported to a medical centre and later released into police custody.

But the trucker, identified as a 24-year-old man from Brampton, is still in a U.S. jail more than a month after the crash on charges of involuntary manslaughter and a gross negligent operation charge.

Satnam Singh, 24, of Brampton, remains jailed on $150,000 USD cash bail, according to police. The Brampton man was arraigned on the involuntary manslaughter charge on Wednesday and is scheduled to make a court appearance next month.

A wife and mother of one, Weber is being remembered as “the heartbeat of her family” by friends who have started fundraisers to honor her memory and support the grieving family with $160,000 USD already donated.

According to reports from U.S. media, the truck was carrying a load of bagged mulch at the time of the crash and prosecutors may be seeking a possible plea deal.
