A Canadian band that regularly topped the charts in the 1970s has been added to the lineup of Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival (SOM).

Trooper, known for such hits as Raise a Little Hell, The Boys in the Bright White Sports Car, Two for the Show and General Hand Grenade will be appearing at SOM which will be held June 13-16 at Spencer Smith Park.

And the list keeps on growing.

Other acts that have been announced in the past few days that add to the Canadian content include Strange Advance, Pryanka, Willie Stratton, Maggie Andrew, and Jim Bryson. They join Kathleen Edwards, Lowest of the Low, Chilliwack, Tyler Shaw, Twin Flames and Rêve who have already been booked.

Also taking part are American recording artists Spin Doctors and Brother Elsey.

New this year will be a battle of the bands that will take place at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre on June 8. This event is meant to showcase local talent with the winner getting a chance to perform for a wider audience on the SOM main stage on the closing day.

Originating in 1980, SOM is one of Burlington’s most welcomed summer events attracting large crowds for what is billed as Canada’s largest free outdoor music events. And as well as the park performances, SOM will include events in and around downtown Burlington such as a parade and a street festival.
