Cellphones, televisions and radios should sound with an emergency alert across Ontario today (Nov. 16).

The blasting sound is a routine test and there is no need to be alarmed. The test is scheduled for 12:55 p.m. today (Nov. 16) in Ontario.

The tone broadcast on TV, radio and compatible wireless phones comes from Alert Ready, Canada’s emergency alerting system.

Alert Ready delivers critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Canadians.

The Alert Ready system was developed with the federal, provincial and territorial emergency management officials, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Pelmorex, the broadcasting industry and wireless service providers.

Together, these partners work to ensure Canadians receive alerts immediately and know when to take action to stay safe.
