Canada Day 2023 in Brampton: What’s Open and Closed

With Canada Day falling on a Saturday in 2023, it’s a good idea to know what’s open and closed in Brampton before gearing up for some shopping or recreation on the long weekend.

Since the holiday falls on a weekend, some businesses and services will be closed on Monday, July 3.

Here’s what is open and closed this long weekend:

Canada Day

Open:

  • Some smaller grocery and convenience stores
  • Most Shoppers Drug Mart locations
  • Some restaurants will be open for dining, but call ahead to be sure
  • Wet’n’Wild water park is open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Bramalea City Centre will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on July 1, but some stores and restaurants might be closed
  • Brampton Recreation Centres will be open according to modified hours of operation on Canada Day
  • Beer Store locations, open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (delivery available)
    • 198 Queen St. E.
    • 180 Sandalwood Pkwy.
    • 80 Peel Centre Dr.

Other major malls that are open:

  • Toronto Premium Outlets (9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.)
  • Square One (11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
  • Eaton Centre (10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.)
  • Pacific Mall (11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.)

Closed:

  • Shoppers World Brampton
  • Walmart Supercentres
  • Banks
  • Community Centres
  • LCBO
  • Service Ontario and all government offices
  • Peel Community Recycling Centres
  • Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA)
  • All Brampton Library locations
  • City Hall
  • Brampton Animal Shelter

Other Major Malls That Are Closed:

Fireworks

Brampton City Council made changes to the City’s fireworks bylaw in November banning personal fireworks in the city, but Canada Day is one of a few days every year when the City of Brampton sets off a firework display.

Only the film industry and the City are allowed to apply for permits to use fireworks in Brampton under the new bylaw.

Fines have been increased to a minimum of $500 for discharging fireworks, a $1,000 penalty for selling them or failing to comply with an order and a maximum fine of up to $100,000.

July 3

Closed:

  • Service Ontario and all government offices
  • City Hall
  • All Brampton Library branches
  • Canada Post (no mail pick-up or delivery)
  • Region of Peel offices and non-emergency services, including such as Access Peel Counters, Early Years and Child Care Services, Family Health Call Centre, Healthy Sexuality Clinic, Needle Exchange Program
  • Peel Community Recycling Centres

Transit:

Brampton Transit will be operating on a Saturday schedule on Canada Day, and a Sunday/Holiday schedule on July 3

Customer Service counters at the terminals are closed, but the Contact Centre is available to assist from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Brampton Transit will be providing free shuttle bus services to and from the Canada Day celebration at Chinguacousy Park every 30 minutes between 12:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. You can hop on a free shuttle bus from one of the following four locations:

  • Mount Pleasant GO Station
  • Trinity Common Mall
  • Sheridan College
  • Gore Meadows Community Centre

Go Transit will run on a Sunday schedule. Be sure to check schedules for specific route information.
