Police in Caledon are applauding members of the public for reporting an alleged impaired driver who police say is a repeat offender.

Just after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 1), police say officers were called to the area of McEwan Drive and Highway 50 after receiving reports of a motor vehicle collision.

The driver was reportedly seeking assistance to remove their vehicle, and when officers arrived on scene police say they noticed signs of impairment from the driver.

Police say the driver registered nearly four times the legal limit for alcohol and was arrested at the scene.

The driver had also been recently charged with impaired driving offences last month according to police and was under a 90 day license suspension at the time of the incident.

The driver has recently been convicted twice of impaired driving, according to police.

The 64-year-old from Caledon has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Orangeville Provincial Court in April.

Police said this incident was an example of the public and police working together to help keep roads safe, and the Caledon OPP thanked concerned citizens who call in to report possible impaired drivers.
