A suspect is still at large after taking off from a checkstop in Caledon on Easter Monday.

Just after 9:30 p.m. on Monday (April 18), police say officers from the Caledon OPP were conducting a RIDE checkstop in the area of Albion Vaughan Road and Highway 50 when the driver of a vehicle failed to stop when directed by police.

The vehicle took off but was later located empty, and when officers searched the area police say they located three suspects believed to be the vehicle occupants.

The suspects led officers on a foot chase and two people were arrested.

A third suspect managed to evade police including a member of OPP’s Canine Unit who attended the scene to assist with the search.

And while the third suspect was not located, police say they did recover a firearm.

Two of the suspects have been charged while police are still searching for the third individual.

Asser Asser, 22, of Caledon, and Abdullahi Warsame, 19 of Scarborough, were charged with multiple firearms-related Criminal Code offences.

Asser faces two additional charges of flight from a peace officer and dangerous operation.

Both of the accused were held for a bail hearing.
