A new café and community hub promoting social justice is coming to Mississauga on May 28.

Studio 89 is part of Youth Troopers for Global Awareness (YTGA), a youth-led, non-profit organization that is dedicated to interculturalism, community dialogue and artistic expression while encouraging conscious care for the planet, animals, and people.

The hub is hosting a grand opening to celebrate their new location at 2520 Eglinton Avenue West.

The event will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and feature light refreshments.

Studio 89 offers programs, events, and campaigns free for members of the community.

In terms of programming, in the past it offered board game nights, writer’s workshops, book sales and artistic events.

“Our space hosts people from all walks of life and all ages,” Studio 89 said on their website. “We are proud to cater to an intersectional community. We empower our community to act locally, think globally for a sustainable future.”

The community hub space used to be in a different location in Mississauga but, in 2016, they began their search for a larger space at the request for more programs.

Present programs include an Art Show & Tell, a Graphic Design Course, Seniors and Youth Connect, and a Human Trafficking Podcast.
