Cabbie found critically injured in St. Catharines

A taxi driver was found critically injured in St. Catharines during the early morning hours on Saturday (Sept. 23).

Police were called for an ambulance assist at 4:45 a.m. on Eastchester Ave. near Lorne St. where they found Niagara EMS and St. Catharines Fire Department workers already on the scene.

The 58-year-old victim had been driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla taxi parked nearby when a driver passing by found him unconscious on the road.

He was quickly transported to the hospital with unspecified but serious injuries. Officers and the K9 Unit were brought to search the area but found nothing.

The taxi was towed from the scene by Forensic Service Unit detectives to look for further clues.

Residents or businesses in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 3:00am and 5:00am on Sept. 23. See map below.
