A busy road near the QEW in southwest Mississauga will partially close on two different occasions in the next 15 months so work crews can replace aging watermains.

Peel Region officials said in an online notice to motorists and area residents that work crews will be replacing the watermain along South Sheridan Way, from Southdown Road to Indian Road, starting Oct. 2 and continuing into the winter months of early 2024.

“This work is required to maintain and improve existing water services,” project officials said in the notice, which provides details on this component of the work (Phase One) in addition to Phase Two in later 2024.

Officials say that in order to complete the work in Phase One, South Sheridan Way will be temporarily closed to all through traffic from Southdown Road to Indian Road. The closure is expected to last for four to six months, beginning on the early October date.
During the closure period:
  • a detour route will be clearly marked with road signs (see map below for detour route)
  • residents who live on the street will have access to their homes. Access to businesses will be maintained as well
  • emergency services vehicles will be permitted to cross through the closure with guidance from the onsite contractor

Phase Two of the work will get underway in spring of 2024, Peel officials say.

At that time, South Sheridan Way, from Indian Road to Tridom Court, will be closed to through traffic until the end of 2024 as work crews replace the watermain there.

During that phase, watermain replacement and improvement work will take place on Gallant Drive, Chippenham Drive, Hermant Court, Kowal Drive and Woodeden Drive, project leaders say.

“We will deliver more detailed information to your home or business closer to the proposed construction date,” officials add.
